Portsmouth to sue Premier League over withheld cash

Portsmouth are threatening to sue the Premier League in a landmark case.

The PL withheld £7million of TV income and distributed it to the clubs who have been chasing Pompey for unpaid transfer deals.

But Pompey claim they are up to date with debts to domestic clubs, that the League have no right to give money to foreign clubs or withhold cash in advance of future payments.

Chief executive Peter Storrie said: “I can confirm we have issued a legal letter to the Premier League to demand that the transfer embargo should be lifted.

“We believe we’ve a very good case against them. They have absolutely no right to withhold TV money in advance of future payments or payments to foreign clubs.”
